When you join a new school there are so many papers and items for you to fill out. We have narrowed it down to the Top 10 Essential things you should do to start your time at Endhaven. ENDHAVEN TOP 10 ESSENTIALS
1. CHECK YOUR STUDENT’S AGENDA OR CLASS DOJO DAILY AND THE THURSDAY FOLDER WEEKLY. These are useful tools to receive communication from your student’s teacher. In the Thursday Folder you will find information about upcoming events and graded student work.
2. HELP OUT AT SCHOOL - VOLUNTEERS ARE VERY WELCOME! Ask the Front Office, your student’s teachers or contact the PTA to find out more. There is always a task you can help with, no experience or mastery of English is needed. You can help in the classroom, at PTA events, or in other capacities around the school on a regular basis or just once in awhile. Go to www.cmsvolunteers.com to register. Passports are accepted in the registration process, but YOU MUST PRESENT IT TO THE FRONT OFFICE STAFF.
3. VISIT THE SCHOOL WEBSITE http://schools.cms.k12.nc.us/endhavenES for news, events, teacher’s e-mails and wiki pages (where you can find homework and info). Make sure you check the site regularly as it is frequently updated.
4. SHARE YOUR EMAIL AND PHONE NUMBER WITH BOTH THE TEACHER AND THE FRONT OFFICE. You will then be added to the distribution lists for a variety of information channels such as phone blasts and grade e-mails.
5. WHEN VISITING THE SCHOOL to have lunch with your student or for a meeting with a teacher, BRING A U.S. issued PHOTO ID, DRIVER’S LICENSE or PASSPORT TO SIGN IN. Without it, you cannot register as a visitor or leave the front office.
6. ENDHAVEN CAN HELP WITH INTERPRETERS. If you do not feel comfortable with English, the school can provide a translator for parent/teacher meetings. If you have a concern, write an email in your language to the teacher, the school will do its best to translate your email.
7. SIGN IN TO THE POWERSCHOOL web page to find out about your student’s grades. Ask the Front Office for your student’s codes to create an account.
8. SCHOOL STARTS AT 8:15. If you child is not in his/her room when the bell rings, he/she is tardy. You MUST walk your student into the Front Office and sign in after the 8:15 bell. Absences and changes to transportation can be reported directly to the teacher by email or handwritten note.
9. COME AND HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR STUDENT. Parents and family are welcome to have lunch with their student(s) at the regular lunchtime for his/her class. Please keep in mind seating is limited in the cafeteria. Ask the teacher about your student’s lunchtime.
10. IN CASE OF QUESTIONS, CONCERNS OR SCHOOL ISSUES, do not hesitate to contact your student’s teachers (by e-mail through the school web site), the Front Office or the school counselor.
